Belt Conveyor Wear Liners' Role In Transfer Points

Enhancing Efficiency and Longevity

Wear liners play several crucial roles in enhancing the effectiveness and durability of low-spillage transfer points.

Primarily, as implied by their name, wear liners act as "sacrificial surfaces" that endure the abrasion caused by conveyed materials. Unlike chute walls, the skirtboards or skirting seals, wear liners are easier to replace, making damage to these components less concerning. Role of Wear Liner

Some wear liners are also designed to minimize friction, impact, noise, and the degradation of bulk materials.

However, wear liners serve more than just as strips of material; they also assist in centering cargo on the conveyor, thereby reducing the pressure exerted on sealing strips and extending their lifespan.

In a traditional transfer area, the material flowing through exerts significant outward pressures when it drops onto the belt. Uncontrolled side pressure can cause fines and dust to shift away from the center of the material pile beneath the skirtboard, leading to spillage and increased wear on the skirting seal. By adding a solid layer between the materials and the sealing strip, wear liners protect both the sealing system and other sensitive components.

Installed along the inside of the skirtboard, wear liners safeguard the skirting seal and the skirtboard itself. This additional layer separates the task of load placement from sealing the chute, ensuring each component performs its designated function effectively. By creating a barrier between the material pile and the edge-sealing strips, wear liners significantly diminish side loading forces reaching the sealing strips. This arrangement not only enhances the sealing system's effectiveness and lifespan but also reduces the risk of damage due to material entrapment.

While wear liners are beneficial for most low-spillage transfer points, there are scenarios where they may not be essential. For instance, in lightly-loaded situations where outward pressure is minimal or on belts transporting non-abrasive, low-density materials, wear liners might not be necessary. However, in all other circumstances, properly installed and maintained wear liners can mitigate material side-loading forces, thereby improving sealing efficiency and extending the lifespan of sealing strips.
