New Developments in Conveyor Belt Technology

Innovations in Energy Efficiency and Durability

Recent innovations in conveyor belt technology focus on improving efficiency and durability. One significant development is the creation of energy-efficient belt covers known as Low Rolling Resistant (LRR) Covers. These covers reduce the tension required to operate the belt by minimizing roller indentation resistance as the belt moves over the idlers. Manufacturers claim that this can lead to energy consumption savings of 10 percent or more.

LRR covers are particularly beneficial for long horizontal conveyors with wide, fully loaded belts carrying high-density materials, where idler-related resistances dominate. Despite the higher initial cost, the energy savings and potential for using smaller system components can offset the expense.

Another innovation is the use of non-stick belt covers to prevent belt-borne carryback. These belts have a non-stick coating that prevents material accumulation, reducing the need for belt cleaning and extending belt life. However, conventional belt cleaners should be avoided with non-stick belting to preserve the coating.

Conveyor systems are complex, and changes in belt specifications can affect overall performance. Consulting with belting manufacturers is essential to determine the most appropriate belt type for specific applications, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.
